As increasing numbers of swine flu cases have emerged around the world, and a “public health emergency of international concern” has been declared by the World Health Organization, fears of a global swine flu epidemic grow worldwide.
Madison Cavanaugh, author of “The One-minute Cure: The Secret of Healing Virtually All Diseases” has a message of hope, however.
She insists that the fear is incorrectly placed on the swine influenza virus itself. “Microbes, germs, harmful bacteria and viruses, such as the swine influenza virus, do not cause disease in and of themselves,” Cavanaugh states.
“They do seek their natural habitat – such as an oxygen-deficient body – rather than being the CAUSE of the disease. It’s no different from the way mosquitoes seek out stagnant water, but do not cause the pool to become stagnant.”
Cavanaugh’s assertion is consistent with the findings of Dr. Rudolf Virchow (1821 - 1902), also called the “Father of Pathology.”
It is also supported by Louis Pasteur, the notable 19th century French chemist and microbiologist best known for his remarkable breakthroughs in the causes and prevention of disease, who recanted his germ theory of disease at his deathbed, stating, “The microbe is nothing. The terrain is everything.”
The terrain of which Pasteur spoke refers to an oxygenated environment in the human body, which makes for a strong immune system. A weakened or suppressed state of the immune system only occurs when the human body lacks oxygen, thereby allowing viruses, such as the swine influenza virus, to breed.
It therefore stands to reason that the swine flu virus does not CAUSE disease, but rather seeks out an environment where it can thrive best – and that is in oxygen-deprived bodies.
“A sufficiently oxygenated body is uninhabitable by disease,” Cavanaugh states, and viruses can neither survive nor thrive in it. Therefore, the best defense against microbes, germs, harmful bacteria and viruses, such as the swine flu virus, is to keep the body oxygenated.”
Cavanaugh’s book, “The One-minute Cure” discusses the therapeutic use of the only natural substance which stimulates the movement of oxygen atoms from the bloodstream to the cells to a dramatically greater degree than is usually reached by other means.
The natural remedy can be self-administered at home in less than a minute, and costs only 1-1/2 cents a day to use.

A single sneeze propels 100,000 droplets into the air at around 90 mph, landing on door knobs, ATM keypads, elevator buttons, escalator railings, and grocery cart handles. In a subway station at rush hour, according to British researchers, as many as 10 percent of all commuters can come in contact with the spray and residue from just one sneeze (or sternutation). That means as many as 150 commuters can be sickened by one uncovered achoo.
No wonder health officials are extremely concerned about the new strain of swine flu that has infected at least 20 Americans in five states, killed some 80 people in Mexico, and has traveled to the other side of the world in New Zealand. Understandably, US authorities - following the lead of the World Health Organization (WHO) - have declared a “public health emergency.”
“This virus has, clearly, a pandemic potential,” says Margaret Chan, director general of WHO. Why? The virulent new H1N1 swine flu strain spreads quickly and efficiently from human to human. It’s “a completely novel virus,” says the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). This latest variant is a mixture of human virus, bird virus, and pig viruses from all over the world. Experts say it’s particularly worrisome because people are getting sick without any encounters with pigs. Even worse, young, healthy people (ages 20-40) are dying at a striking rate, a telltale sign of the worst flu epidemics.
Swine flu fears aren’t new in the United States. In February 1976, a 19-year-old army private at Fort Dix, New Jersey, died within 24 hours of becoming infected with swine flu. Soon, 500 soldiers were afflicted and the US government began a controversial nationwide vaccination campaign. Ultimately, some 40 million Americans were inoculated. As a result, several hundred people developed Guillain- Barré syndrome, a serious neurological condition, and the immunization program was stopped.
What’s going to happen this time? Without question, the disease will spread farther and wider. At this point, as the CDC says, it can’t be contained or controlled. (The flu shot from last fall, for instance, won’t combat this strain).
What can you do to protect yourself? “No single action will provide complete protection,” the CDC notes, but taking a few steps can help reduce the likelihood of transmission of swine flu (or many other infections).
1. Sanitize – i.e. Wash Your Hands Frequently. It may sound obvious, but hand-washing with soap and water for around 20 seconds is the single best thing you can do (if you’re going to go out into the world and interact with other human beings). The CDC estimates that 80 percent of all infections are spread by hands. If you can’t wash your hands regularly, try hand-sanitizers with 60 percent alcohol content.
2. Avoid – i.e. Engage in “Social Distancing.” That’s the fancy term for reducing unnecessary social contact, staying away from crowds, and avoiding people if you’re sick or if you’re concerned that they may be infected. It may not be especially practical when you have to go to, say, work, but experts believe it’s worth repeating: Isolation and avoidance reduce your chances of getting infected or infecting others.
(Researchers in the UK - mentioned above and sponsored by a cold remedy company - found that 99 percent of commuters suffer at least one cold per winter. By contrast, 58 percent of people who work from home and 88 per cent of those who walk to work caught a cold last winter).
If you need to go someplace crowded, the CDC says, try to spend as little time as possible and try to stay six feet away from potentially infected people. Wearing a surgical or dental facemask - cleared by the FDA as a medical device - “can help prevent some exposures,” the CDC says, but they’re not foolproof.
3. Be Alert – i.e. Recognize the Symptoms and Get Help. Swine flu symptoms are similar to regular flu: Fever, body aches, sore throat, cough, runny nose, vomiting, diarrhea, and lethargy. If you don’t feel well, seek medical attention. So far, it’s important to note, this swine flu is treatable (and absolutely survivable). It’s resistant to two of four antiviral drugs approved for combating the flu: Symmetrel and Flumadine. But two newer antivirals - Tamiflu and Relenza - appear to work.
What are the chances of a global pandemic? “The situation is uncertain and unpredictable and likely to be a marathon more than a sprint,” says Dr. Richard Besser, acting director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
“We expect there to be a broader spectrum of disease here in the U.S.,” adds Dr. Anne Schuchat, interim deputy director for the agency’s Science and Public Health Program. “I do fear that we will have deaths here.”
Swine flu will dominate news headlines in the days ahead. Every case around the world will be carefully tracked and tallied – and deservedly so. It may not sound like much, but the best defense involves some very simple steps: Every sneeze should be covered – preferably with the crook of an arm - and every hand should be washed … and washed again.

Is canned salmon, just as nutritious as the fresh kind?
On the downside, canned salmon contains more than six times as much sodium — 399 milligrams per 100 grams (about 3.5 ounces) as fresh salmon. Regrettably, some of the heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids that salmon is praised for get lost in the canning process, so canned salmon has only about half the total amount of the two most important omega-3s EPA and DHA.
However, canned salmon contains many additional beneficial nutrients, not found in their fresh counterparts. The differences develop from how canned fish is processed, and from the fact that bones are included. One 3.5 ounce serving with bones contains two thirds as much calcium as a cup of milk, making this product one of the most calcium-rich, non-dairy foods. Canned salmon also has more vitamin D and phosphorus per serving than fresh salmon. Both canned and fresh salmon give you roughly the same amount of protein, 22-23 grams per 100 grams.
The American Heart Association recommends eating fish 3 times a week to reduce the risk for cardiovascular disease. Despite the fact that you’ll need to eat it more frequently to get enough omega-3s canned salmon can be a delicious and nutritious part of any diet. In addition, canned salmon costs less per serving than fresh, and canned products are an economically wise choice because they have a long shelf life.

You come home from a long day at work, ready to put your feet up and relax for a while. When you open the door to find your furry friend waiting, hoping that it’s time for a walk or a game of fetch, what do you do? Do you ignore the wagging tail, those big eyes, and that look of excitement? Of course not! You decide that relaxing can wait, and you head out with Fido for a little activity.
You know that exercise is good for you. It helps you maintain a healthy weight, manage stress, sleep better, and increase your energy level. The great thing is that activity does the same for your pets! Not only will exercise help them live longer, but an exercising animal is also more alert and more content. Some people believe that their pets misbehave to get even for being left alone; but in reality, the cause is usually boredom from lack of exercise. Many other behavior problems like chewing, digging, and barking go away once the animal starts getting regular activity.
Some recent studies have shown a link between pet ownership and better health. A dog, for example, becomes a stimulus for exercise. Therefore, pet owners tend to have better cardiovascular fitness levels than people without pets. One study, for example, showed that dog owners walk an average of 300 minutes per week–that’s nearly double the 168 minutes of walking that people without dogs usually do. In addition, pets have been shown to reduce anxiety, be a source of physical contact and comfort, and decrease feelings of loneliness and depression.
Exercising with your dog is a great time saver! Whether you like to run, walk, or play in the backyard with your pet, you can get your own workout at the same time. Although walking is probably the most common activity, there are other opportunities for exercise that you may not have thought of—hiking, backpacking, jogging, swimming, and rollerblading (be careful!) can all be done with pets in tow. Many sporting goods stores now carry items such as canine backpacks, hands-free leashes (to make jogging easier), and life vests to protect pets in the water.
Just as it would be hard for you to go out and jog for 45 minutes if you haven’t worked out in 6 months, it’s also hard for your pet. Be sure to get your veterinarian’s okay before beginning your pet’s exercise routine. After you get the go-ahead, here are some tips to help you get started:
• Start slowly, gradually increasing the time and intensity of the activity. This will safely strengthen your pet’s muscles, aerobic capacity, and footpads.
• Pay attention to how your pet is feeling. Signs that your pet needs to slow down or stop include drooling, stumbling, trouble breathing, and a long, droopy tongue. Take a break and consider making tomorrow’s workout shorter. Also remember that in hot weather your pet can’t sweat like you do to keep cool.
•
Concrete and asphalt are tough on your friends’ paws—especially on hot days. Try to walk or run on dirt paths (or grass) as much as possible.
• The longer you work out, the more water Fido needs. Bring along a collapsible water dish to help your pet stay hydrated.
• Be realistic about your pet’s limitations. Many smaller breeds love going for a brisk walk, but you’ll probably have to carry them on a strenuous hike. Animals with a thin coat will not tolerate cold weather very well, whereas dogs with thick coats don’t do well in the summer heat.
• You should avoid strenuous exercise with your pet until they are finished growing (after 9-12 months for most dogs).
Working out with a buddy can be motivating and make exercise more enjoyable. So think about making a buddy out of your four-legged friend!

Mary had been using every possible treatment for getting rid of pimples on her face. She must have spent a considerable amount of money but in return she got frustration, depression and a poor self image.
Young adults may face the problem of pimples and acnes due to natural hormonal changes during their teens. Heredity factors, stress and use of different cosmetics may add to the problems.
Best solution to Acne problems would be:
>Increase your intake of fluids –water and juices.
>Wash your face 3-4 times a day.
Please keep in your mind that Acne and pimples are the reflection of internal disorders of the body. Therefore outward eruptions should not be suppressed by different ointments.
It is advisable to try Homeopathy for an effective remedy.
All diabetics need to start on a special diabetic diet that is geared toward consuming less sugar and carbohydrates. They must stay on this diet because if they get too much sugar in their body, it will cause the pancreas to start working harder to process the sugar into energy. The more sugar they consume, the harder their pancreas will work. The sugar will soon build up in their system because the pancreas will not be able to handle it all, which can lead to serious health problems.
When your body becomes overloaded with sugar for a long period of time, many bad health problems arise. The extra sugar will start damaging your blood vessels which are needed to supply blood to your vital organs. It will also increase your risk of kidney disease, heart disease, vision problems, and can also cause nerve damage. This leaves us with the question of how you can lower your blood sugar levels to keep these problems from happening.
One way to lower your blood sugar is to eat the spice cinnamon. It effectively lowers your blood sugar level by slowing down how fast your stomach processes the food you put in it. A good way to eat this would be to just sprinkle cinnamon on some oatmeal each morning. However, eating a Cinnabon cinnamon roll does not count.
Another way is to have some apple cider vinegar. Studies have shown that if you have 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar before going to bed and before each meal, it can greatly lower the rise of glucose that usually forms. It is thought that it does this by slowly digesting the starch found in your foods.
One more way to lower the blood sugar is to drink lots of water. The water basically thins down the sugar in your system. Once enough water is in your system, your body will simply flush the extra sugar out of your system along with the extra water. The more water your drink, the lower your sugar level will be, and the healthier you will become.
The herb ginseng also helps. It is thought that it lowers your blood sugar level by increasing your insulin and sugar uptake in your cells and by slowing down your digestion of your food. The best way to take this would be as a cup of ginseng tea prior to eating your diabetic diet meals to ensure that your blood levels do not get too low.
Having a recurring exercising schedule can also you keep the sugar level down. This technique works real fast in getting your blood sugar lower because of how your body burns off the energy. Your body will first take the energy it needs from the extra sugar floating around in your blood.
Keeping a blood sugar level at a normal rate is the goal of every diabetic. Our blood sugar level should be between 90 to 130 mg before we eat anything and below 180 after we eat. This can be accomplished by sticking to a diabetic diet, but can get too high if we stray and cheat by eating a sugar item. When this happens, just use the 5 methods mentioned to help lower your blood sugar level back down to a healthier rate.

While enjoying your deeper sleep during early hours, if you happen to experience ‘muscle cramps’ in your calf muscles, you will have to jump out of your bed and keep wondering about the way to ease the cramps.
Once I had taken a long distance flight, from Delhi to London. I was taking a nap. I experienced muscle cramps in calf muscles. It was very painful. Moreover I was sitting by the side of window so I had to get up and rush towards the aisle so that I could stretch my legs and gain relief.
‘Cramps’ are the muscle contraction in the involuntary muscles. It is felt as muscle twitching. The muscles do not relax on their own. It can usually be relaxed by following exercises:
# Stand on your feet and apply a light massage on the cramped muscles.
# Try to twist your body in the opposite direction so that the muscles could be relaxed.
# Once you are little relaxed, take deep breaths. It will improve the level of oxygen in your body.
# At the base of leg, there are group of nerves on the outer side of the foot. You should apply pulsating pressures for 30 seconds, on those nerves.
# You may apply pulsating pressure for 30 seconds in the middle of calf muscle, on both legs.
The cramps are the side effect of the exercises. It cause sharp pains yet they are harmless. Intake of water should be increased. It will keep the body – well hydrated.
Take care while starting your daily exercises. You must warm up your body so that your body muscles are properly tuned-up.
