Cholesterol is not the major culprit in heart disease. It may be hard to believe after all we have heard about the dangers of high cholesterol from our doctors, and the media. Cholesterol is a soft, waxy substance found among the lipids (fats) in the bloodstream and in all your body’s cells. It’s an important part of a healthy body because it’s used to form cell membranes. Cholesterol also aids in the manufacture of bile (which helps digest fats), and is also important for the metabolism of fat soluble vitamins, including vitamins A, D, E and K. How could something so good be so bad?

Following conclusions have been drawn from the studies conducted during a span of long time. It must be of general interest:
• Caffeine in coffee seems to have less of an effect on blood pressure than the caffeine in colas because there are so many other substances in coffee that have the opposite effect physiologically from caffeine.
• Coffee helps in lowering the risk of Diabetes (type 2). Coffee’s ingredient – Chlorogenic acid slows uptake of sugar from the intestines and stimulates a chemical which boosts insulin. Another ingredient of Coffee – Trigonelline, a precursor to vitamin B3 may help in slowing the glucose absorption.
*Two to three cups of coffee may lower the risk of heart stroke. Certainly it does not cause any harm to the heart.
