Heart Disease – Attn: Only women

09/29/09 | by Ajit | Categories: Diseases

My wife felt chest-pain. I could not believe that women could suffer from heart problems. Since the pain started shooting up, I had to rush her to Casualty. The blood pressure had shot up but ECG was reported normal.

After five days again, I had to rush my wife to the hospital with the same problem but this time also nothing serious was reported.

After another three days when this problem repeated, there was slight problem with the ECG report. I had to shift her from Casualty to Heart Care Hospital. Her angiography was advised. It was soon performed. The report of angiography was normal.

The Heart specialist informed us the reason for this problem which we understood as ‘Blockages in micro arteries which happens among the ladies, usually after menopause’
We consider heart disease as a man’s disease but statistically more women die of heart disease than men.

Major reason for this fact could be based on the followings:
• Overweight
• Low HDL
• High triglycerides
• Diabetes
• Surgical procedure complications, if hospitalized.

Cardiologists unintentionally misdiagnose, under diagnose or under-treat women with heart disease. It results into women having higher incidence of congestive heart failure and greater emotional side effects and impairment after bypass surgery.

Women should take extra care with regard to their heart disease. Health is our most prized possession. Life style improvement, breathing exercise, low fat and freshly cooked food can help anybody to enjoy a healthy living with stronger heart.

Infertility treatment

09/27/09 | by Ajit | Categories: Diseases

Both men and women suffer from infertility caused by various reasons. However, it’s important for both the sex to undergo treatment for this complicated issue. Various known and unknown factors cause infertility in women. These include diseases like endometriosis, diminished ovarian reserve, ovulation disorders, and low progesterone level. Low sperm count and low sperm motility, STD, injury or chronic diseases, sperm blockage and ageing are some of the reasons men for, which suffer.

Scheduled drugs and systematic treatment can cure most of the above mentioned infertility problems except ageing and chronic diseases, although these treatments are quite expensive and may have harmful side effects. Additional treatment may be required to cure the side effects. Treatments conducted through IVF or In Vitro Fertilization and ICSI or Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection is best among the other methods of infertility treatment. In this technique, the egg cells outside the womb are fertilized by the sperm and then transferred inside. This treatment is suggested when other techniques fail to give results. This technique is a hormonally controlled ovulation progression. In this treatment involves, the ova is removed from the female’s ovaries and helps the sperm to fertilize in a fluid medium. But this is not a normal process at all and involves excavation of the eggs from the ovary, fertilizing them in an outside laboratory and putting them back in the uterus. In the normal process, the human decides to pick the healthiest sperm for reproducing the egg but in the artificial process, the embryologist takes this decision. However, when he fails to pick the healthiest sperm and egg, it may cause the ill health of the child during birth and even later in life.

Some alternative techniques with a holistic approach are fast becoming popular in order to cure the problem of secondary infertility. These techniques are all the more preferred by people as these have less or no side effects at all.

The acupuncture method, for example, especially ear acupuncture or Auricular is very effective in cases where female infertility has been caused by some kind of malfunction of the ovary. The hormonal message that is transferred from brain to ovary is the most beneficial result received from this technique. In accordance to the investigative trials, those women who have received acupuncture treatment for about 30 times within a time period of 3 months have shown good results. Those female who underwent hormonal therapy along with it suffered from side effects.

In the alternative treatment techniques, diet and lifestyle changes are given a lot of importance. Regular intake of such things that contain caffeine like coffee, chocolate, cocoa, green tea (containing caffeine), black tea and colored soft drinks which has harmful effects on conception is discouraged. According to a study, one and a half cup of coffee for a woman who is trying for pregnancy is sure to delay her conception. Thus coffee is a strictly a no-no for patients suffering from infertility.

Diets that include fish contaminated with PCB or Polychlorinated Biphenyls are also believed to be a cause for substantial reduction in the ability to become pregnant. According to one study, women who had more than one meal containing fish contaminated with PCBs (procured from Lake Ontario), developed reduced fecundity within a month.

The best result for the treatment of infertility has been reported through the Chinese medicines, acupuncture and of course, the holistic approach. The holistic approach reaches to the depth of the problem and only then delivers physical, spiritual as well as emotional treatment, rather than only investigating the organs. On the other side, the conventional approach to the problem of infertility fails to successfully detect and remove the real causes and moreover, causes side effects. The holistic approach suggests a natural remedy and a way of life that can really solve the problem as soon as the real cause is determined.

Magnesium – Prime mover of the body

09/26/09 | by Ajit | Categories: Diseases

There is a general understanding among the people that Calcium is essential for strong bones and vitamin C helps in fast healing of wounds and infections. It is true but how far we are aware of important role played by Magnesium in our body systems.

Magnesium activates 300 different biochemical reactions in our body. Oxygen and water are very important for our body. The next is Magnesium which regulates calcium, potassium and sodium. It must be clearly understood that if low oxygen and water can affect our body then deficiency of magnesium can adversely affect our body systems.

Magnesium helps in proper functioning of nervous system, bone formation, creation of new cells, proper working of kidney, adrenals, brain and activation of B vitamins. Its deficiency may cause insomnia, muscle cramps & disorders, osteoporosis, regular feeling of weakness, fatigue and nervousness

Magnesium has affected almost everybody since its importance is largely misunderstood. Its deficiency can even cause a heart attack. Change in heart beats or racing heart beats, angina pain and exhaustion after heavy physical exercise like: football, basket ball or races could be the result of magnesium deficiency. The reason could be the insufficient relaxation of the heart muscles. Even young athletes could suffer from sudden death due to deficiency of magnesium.

Maintaining safe levels of magnesium in the body is very important. It must be clearly understood that excess calcium in the body may force out the magnesium. Consumption of pasteurized milk causes deficiency of magnesium since it has 8 parts calcium and one part magnesium.

Improve your intake of magnesium after consulting your physician. You can improve your level f magnesium by consuming the following foods: Wheat bran, wheat germ, almonds, cashews, peanuts, sesame seeds, millet, wheat, wild rice, tofu, beet greens, brown rice and dried figs etc.

Signs of Infertility

09/25/09 | by Ajit | Categories: Diseases

Have you ever considered what the primary signs of infertility in a human being are? We should be aware of the indications of infertility and that too, as early as possible. Signs of infertility can become apparent in several ways, including instinctive and cultural factors, irregular behavior of individuals while having a sexual union, malnutrition, a depressed mental condition, endocrinology factors, and the current health condition of persons. The overall general lifestyle, emotional quotients, financial issues as well as time represent pointers to infertility as well. In this context, it is important to distinguish between infertility and impotency. The factors mentioned above can result in infertility in a man or a lady, in case any of the former stops working normally.

In cases where a male has full potency, his female partner can become pregnant during the menstruation cycle of the latter. However, not many are aware that men too have hormonal cycles. What’s more, while the cycle of ladies cover a 28-day period, a fixed tab cannot be put on the male cycle. Researches show that the quality of the male sperm can go down, not at all matching with his hormone cycle, although he can release sperms whenever he wishes to do so. The lower sperm quality, in turn, has a negative impact on a man’s fertility, and can diminish his ability to impregnate. Signs of infertility, in both men and women, can become more apparent with advancement of their age.

Discourses on the many signs of infertility can often be confusing. Here, we would be discussing these issues in a clearer manner. Fertility of humans is not our focus here. In females, the single most important sign of her being infertile is an irregular pattern of her periods. However, it has to be kept in mind that, while irregular menstrual cycles do indicate infertility, they can also act as signs of other health hazards.

If a lady does not have the ideally correct body weight, her fertility is likely to go down. Infertility can be a problem faced by both overweight as well as grossly underweight women. The fetus needs to be nursed properly during pregnancy. If the hip region of a woman is too narrow, this task becomes difficult, and her ability to conceive babies suffers. The balance of hormones can also receive a jolt in case a proper nutrition-rich diet is not adopted. Obesity can also stand in the way of maintenance of the correct hormone balance. As a result, their ability to reproduce can suffer. If a lady is in the habit of drinking too much, she can also become infertile, for a considerable length of time too. Thus, in order to maintain her fertility, alcohol-consumption needs to be eliminated totally. However, this infertility has nothing to do with the barrenness of a lady.

Doctors point out several other common signs of infertility. For example, if the ovary of a lady is twisted, conceiving a baby becomes very tough for her. For women to become pregnant, the male sperm has to travel through her body and enter her ovary. In case the female ovary is positioned at a wrong position, this procedure is not possible. As a result, for all practical purposes, the lady becomes infertile. Any cysts that are present in the ovary can also prevent a woman from getting pregnant.

On the other hand, guessing which man is infertile is tricky. While a rather weak-looking guy can become a parent whenever he has an intercourse with a lady, an apparently strong, tough person can have an unfavorable rate of mortality and/or a low sperm count. However, in general, the level of fertility goes down as a man becomes more and more obese. Problems in the general health of males and/or his anatomy can also bring down his virility. Fertility falls with the advancing years too.

Andropause (or, the process of menopause in males) results in easy detection of the signs of infertility. The indications of infertility in men include:

v Losing hair on a regular basis,
v Gaining too much fat in the abdominal parts, and an increase in general body weight,
v Wrinkles and dryness of the skin,
v A fall in the male libido levels,
v Excess stress,
v Problems in having an erection,
v Too much sweat as well as hot flushes,
v A disturbed and nervous state of mind, with constant bouts of anxiety,
v An feeling of unwillingness and a marked lack of motivation, and
v A depressed mental state.

Fortunately, these signs of infertility can be eliminated if holistic methods of treatment are adopted. Unlike other conventional treatment methods, holistic approaches aim to detect the actual causes of the problem, and then suggest remedies accordingly. And these treatments also do not have any adverse side effects. Holistic methods recommend extensive usage of Chinese medicines, herbs and acupuncture. Proper exercises as well as a balanced diet are also prescribed. It has indeed been proven that holistic methods have a much higher success rate in helping people recover their fertility, than other conventional techniques.

Sea vegetables – full of nutritions

09/24/09 | by Ajit | Categories: Diseases

We grow our food in soil by adding water. Sunlight is surely the other important input which helps the plants to grow. It is all on the ground- in the open air.

Sea vegetables are the plants under water. It has been with loads of nutritional inputs. It grows on coral reefs or on the rocky landscapes. It is also found in the areas where the sunlight reaches, under the water. They are largely called as algae.

Algae are classified by their colors: Red, green, brown. They are largely named by Japanese names since they have been consuming algae for 10,000 years. Some of the popular algae are:

Nori: dark purple-black color that turns phosphorescent green when toasted, famous for its role in making sushi rolls.
Kelp: light brown to dark green in color, oftentimes available in flake form.
Hijiki: looks like small strands of black wiry pasta, has a strong flavor.
Kombu: very dark in color and generally sold in strips or sheets, oftentimes used as a flavoring for soups.
Wakame: similar to kombu, most commonly used to make Japanese miso soup.
Arame: this lacy, wiry sea vegetable is sweeter and milder in taste than many others
Dulse: soft, chewy texture and a reddish-brown color.

Algae offer most of the minerals that are found in human blood. It is an excellent source of iodine and vitamin K, B-vitamin folate, magnesium, iron and calcium, B-vitamins riboflavin and pantothenic acid. Besides it contain good amounts of lignans, plant compounds with cancer-protective properties.

Most of our problems can be easily solved through the natural dose of the above minerals. Algae are the richest source for Iodine. Iodine deficiency causes Goiter. Magnesium helps in preventing migraine headaches and reducing the severity of asthma symptoms. Lignans in algae helps in easing the discomfort of women suffering from hot flashes and other problems which come up due to menopause. Folic acid helps in dealing with atherosclerosis or diabetic heart disease. It also helps in avoiding birth defects.

Scotland, Ireland, Norway, Iceland, New Zealand, the Pacific Islands and coastal South American countries have been consuming algae for a long time. Chinese consider it as a delicacy. They used to offer it to the dignitaries in good old times.

Important:
Sea vegetables are widely recognized as plants with an excellent ability to take up minerals from the water and hold onto these minerals in their cells. This ability makes sea vegetables a rich source of many wonderful minerals, including magnesium, calcium, iron, and iodine. However, in waters that have become polluted with heavy metal elements - including arsenic, lead, and cadmium - sea vegetables can also act like a sponge in absorbing these unwanted contaminants.

Toxicity risks can be prevented through the purchase of certified organic sea vegetables! Because most certified organic sea vegetables can be purchased in dried form and reconstituted at home, they can often be ordered from outside of your local area and shipped to you at a relatively low cost.

It is also important to note that methods of preparing sea vegetables can make a difference in the amount of toxics found in edible portions.

Best time to get pregnant

09/22/09 | by Ajit | Categories: Diseases

One of the most frequently asked questions about pregnancy is the best time to get pregnant. It is neither the Christmas time nor the Valentine’s Day. One needs to be good in mathematics if one is serious about getting pregnant as it totally depends on the ovulating days. Now the question arises that how should one calculate this crucial time? For people who are good in mathematics need not worry but others should get hold of an Ovulation Calculator.

It is important to have some knowledge about one’s own body and its functioning in order to find out the probable dates of ovulation. The ‘post ovulation time’ or the ‘Luteal Phase’ is the period between ovulation and the first day of the menstrual cycle. This period consists of fourteen days and is the same for most women. After fourteen days of the ovulation the period starts. Now what one needs to know is the date due for the next period. By counting back twelve to sixteen days from this date, one is likely to get the days of ovulation. Generally, women who have a cycle of twenty eight days, ovulate on the fourteenth day. Since this is so important to know in order to get pregnant, the ovulation date can also be checked through the BBT technique or the Basal Body Temperature. This is a method that involves the recording of vaginal temperature every morning by a BBT thermometer (with a fine calibration). The thermometer displays a higher temperature on the day of ovulation that the other days.

To explain this fact in a simpler way, the egg starts developing from the end of the menstrual cycle and between the 8th to 12th days it is at its maximum. So the chance to get pregnant is the most if one has intercourse on the 8th, the 10th and the 12th day. This is the most effective time to get pregnant. One shocking fact related to getting pregnant is that the egg lives only for a period of 12 to 16 hours in a cycle! Many gynecologists are of the opinion that the life span of the egg ranges from 12 to 24 hours. But the fertility experts say that it is likely to wither away within 15 to 16 hours. So it is important to hit it at the correct time!

Now its time to shift the focus from the Woman to the Man! If a couple has intercourse on regular basis, it is likely that the strength of the sperms may lack the desired force and the sperm count may also be less than it is required for the fertility level. In addition, the rate of sperm motility may also be hampered. Again, if the sexual union is not so frequent, there are chances that the sperms may become stale and old, making it lack its desired vitality. According to the opinion of the fertility experts, coitus should take place twice weekly for the best result.

It is surprising that tough the female ovum dies within such a short period, the male sperm survives and moves about from 2 to 5 days within the vaginal canal. Keeping this fact in mind, it may be fruitful to have intercourse a couple of days earlier than the date of ovulation, so that the sperm gets plenty of opportunities to hit the egg.

It is important here to point out that following all the above mentioned guidelines may not be enough for getting pregnant. For further assistance, one may turn to holistic remedies that helps find out the actual cause of a problem if there is any and then suggests a remedy that is accurate. These remedies are of a wide range that includes Chinese medications to acupuncture, from exercise to helpful herbs, from lifestyle changes to a healthy and balances diet. Unlike the age-old, conventional therapies which mostly fail, the holistic remedies almost always give the desired results.

Sweet potatoes – The healthy way

09/21/09 | by Ajit | Categories: Diseases

Sweet potatoes don’t need sugar, butter or marshmallows to be delicious. With a few simple steps you can enjoy sweet potatoes the healthy way and avoid the extra fat and calories often added to them.

A Traditional Source of Nutrition
Sweet potatoes have a long history as an important source of food. Native Americans were growing sweet potatoes when Christopher Columbus arrived in the Americas in 1492. Recognized for its flavor and nutrition, the sweet potato spread to many countries and helped to feed people around the world.

Packing a Nutritional Punch
Sweet potatoes are loaded with nutrients, including fiber and vitamin A, as well as calcium, magnesium, and potassium. One cup of cooked sweet potatoes has 200 calories and no fat.

Naturally Sweet
There is a good reason they are called sweet potatoes: they contain natural sugars. To get the most nutritional benefit from this vegetable make sure you prepare them in a healthy way, by avoiding butter and sugar. We’ve provided a few easy recipes below.

Healthy Cooking Tips for Sweet Potatoes
Oven Roasted Sweet Potato “Fries” Recipe
Here is a new and healthy twist on “fries”, roasted in the oven.
• Pre-heat oven to 400°F.
• Peel the sweet potatoes.
• Slice into little sticks or “fries” shape.
• Coat a baking sheet with a little olive oil, so the fries don’t stick to the pan.
• Arrange the “fries” evenly across the pan.
• Season with salt and pepper, or cinnamon.
• Spray or brush ½ teaspoon of olive oil on top of the fries.
• Place pan in oven.
• Bake at 400°F for 12-15 minutes, or until “fries” are golden brown.

Oven Baked Sweet Potatoes
Sweet potatoes can stand alone for an easy and healthy side dish.
• Preheat your oven to 375°F.
• Clean and rinse the sweet potatoes to remove any dirt.
• Dry the potatoes, then using a fork make holes in the skin, to let the steam escape as they cook.
• Place the potatoes on a baking sheet, and place in oven at 375°F.
• Bake for around 45 minutes, or until the inside gets soft. (The time may vary depending on the size of the potato)
• Remove from oven and slice open lengthwise to serve.
• Instead of butter, top the potato with a drizzle of olive oil, and season with salt and pepper. Or just enjoy them plain, enjoying the natural sweetness.

Diabetes – Prevent it by food

09/19/09 | by Ajit | Categories: Diseases

Enjoy your food to your satisfaction.

Surprised, being a diabetic?

You are free to eat protein and vegetables. Go partying on apples, pears and berries but please avoid fruit juices. Sweet fruits like mango and pineapple are out of bounds for you.

The following foods specifically help regulate blood sugar and therefore are good for people with hypoglycemia and diabetes:

BITTER MELON As its name suggests, bitter melon tastes bitter, it is not, however, a melon. It’s a summer squash similar in size and shape to a cucumber but with skin and flesh the color of pale jade. Bitter melon has a lumpy, ridged skin. It is a traditional diabetic remedy throughout the Far East. In clinical tests, bitter melon inhibits glucose absorption, increases insulin flow and has insulin-like effects. It is available in Asian and growers’ markets and in a supplement form. Asian bitter melon recipes use salt to eliminate the vegetable’s bitter flavor.

FENUGREEK A popular spice throughout the Middle East and India, this legume is a common curry ingredient. Fenugreek is smaller than a grain of wheat, mustard yellow in color and oddly shaped. It helps regulate sugar levels of non-insulin-dependent diabetics. Enjoy fenugreek as a tea or a spice. Or sprout these little seeds and substitute them for alfalfa sprouts in salads and sandwiches.

STEVIA A South American herb 30 times sweeter than sugar, stevia helps regulate blood sugar and blood pressure. It also suppresses dental bacteria and reduces mental and physical fatigue. I find stevia easiest to use as a beverage sweetener. It’s available in natural food stores in numerous forms. It is most healthful as a cut herb rather than when its refined into a liquid extract or blended with other sweeteners.

SUNFLOWER FAMILY ROOT VEGETABLES The roots of sunflower relatives contain inulin, a natural fructose that helps diabetics lower their blood sugar. They include burdock, chicory, dandelion, Jerusalem artichoke, salsify and scorzonera. Burdock and Jerusalem artichokes are available in the produce section of most natural food stores. You’ll find burdock, chicory and dandelion as dried herbs or in tinctures. Salsify and scorzonera are occasionally available with imported produce or they’re easy to grow in your garden. And, in temperate regions you may forage chicory, dandelion, Jerusalem artichokes and salsify root.

ONION FAMILY All onion family members help regulate blood sugar so use them daily and with abandon. They include garlic, leeks, onions, ramps and scallions. You may also consider supplementing with garlic powder which is available in numerous forms.

Golf injuries – Why?

09/17/09 | by Ajit | Categories: Diseases

Golf is a sport of convenience. One may enjoy the game for 2-5 days in a week. It is a very relaxing to play holes in an order.

During the game, the muscles perform the activity of swinging a golf club. This activity causes fatigue in the body. Therefore a regular stretching exercise must be performed to keep the muscles energized.

In the absence of regular exercises, the body gets tired and starts developing a continuous pain in the body due to fatigue and overuse. If the activity is continued, the body may break down causing a pulled muscle, muscle stiffness, tightness, or some other type of inflammation. One more swing may put you in complete discomfort. It is just like ‘piece of straw that broke the camel’s back.’

Golf swing is a repetitive movement. The body has to repeat the same activity again which fatigues the body in a period of time. If the body cannot cope with the number of swings we are taking, it will break down.

Chronic injuries in golf can be prevented by considering the following three variables: workload, swing mechanics and golf strength.

In any case, you need to improve the internal strength of your body by performing the stretching exercises. It should be followed up by learning Golf swing improvement techniques.

Recommended stretching exercises could be summarized as under:

1. Lie down on your stomach and raise your right arm and left leg and count 15 and relax. Then raise your left arm and right leg and count up to 15 and relax.

2. Take your position, on you knees like a dog, facing up with your back stretched like a dog, inhale counting upto 10, then exhale counting upto 20. Repeat it five times.

3. Continue in the same posture, face towards the floor but with raised back like a cat, inhale counting upto 10, then exhale counting upto 20. Repeat it five times.

4. Lie down on your back. Fold your legs with the soles firmly on the ground. Lift your hips and cunt up to 5, then relax. Repeat this exercise for 15 times. After performing this exercise for 10 days, the same exercise may be repeated twice a day.

5. Stand on your legs, open it 18 inches. Stretch your arms, bend your body on your sides to touch your left foot by left hand, the right arm must be straight pointing towards the sky/roof. Repeat with bending your body to touch right foot by right hand while the left arm pointing towards the roof/sky. Repeat this exercise 10 times, each day.

6. Lie down on your stomach; raise your upper body on your arms while the lower body rests on the floor (Cobra position). Repeat the exercise 10 times every day.

7. Lie straight on your back. Raise your both legs to move over the body by 180 degrees, to touch the ground by your toes. Come back to original position and relax. Repeat this exercise 5 times each day.

Stop Sweating Naturally

09/10/09 | by Ajit | Categories: Diseases

A normal person does sweat but only when he/she has to put in more of physical labor, stay in warmer surroundings or suffers from some ailment. Normally, excessive liquid in the body drains out through urine. If the sweating increases beyond normal limits then there is certainly some problem with the normal functioning of the body system.

Before going into further details, I wish to cite a simple example of a taxi driver who complained of heavy sweating in the soles. He was suggested to wear acupressure sole inside his shoes for most of the time during the day and remove in the evening while retiring. In 15 days’ time, it resulted into reduced sweating from the feet.

Acupressure sole had small buttons which activated certain points of his sole. During the movements, the sole pressed the buttons regularly which increased the blood circulation in complete body systems including thyroid glands. It helped in the improved supply of oxygen and energy to all the cells of the body. It also helped in fast removal of toxins from the body system. The result was relief felt due to decreased sweating in the soles.

With the ailment or any problem, attention is drawn to various points:
# Attention has to be paid towards improving the lifestyle.
# Physical exercise must be made a regular part of the daily schedule.
# Consumption of processed food, fatty foods and aerated water must be minimized to improve digestive system.
# Regular intake of potable water, fresh fruits and vegetables will greatly help in improving the digestive system.
# Usage of Acupressure plate for 5-minutes in the morning will further improve the working of all the body systems, by improving the blood circulation.

This program will help in reducing the body stress and sweating.

Most of the top models are fair complexioned. Fair skin is always prized. We might have been born with any complexion but we wish to gain fair complexion. We know the skin color is dictated by our genetics but we are prepared to go to any extent. If we need to spend considerable amount of money or undertake any difficult exercise, we wish to try it.

How about trying some simple home remedies? It will surely take little more time but it is worth it. One has to try it with patience.

Turmeric is a miracle herb for skins. Since ages, it is customary for an Indian girl to apply turmeric paste on face arms and legs, before getting married. It helps in adding a glow to the complexion of the girl.

Freshly ground turmeric powder is added to raw milk or rose water to make a face pack and applied on face for 30 minutes and then washed off with water. It will give good results within 30 days.

Face pack should be made by adding lemon juice and honey in turmeric powder and applying it on face. It will improve the complexion and keep the skin – soft.

Turmeric powder (fine) can be mixed with gram flour, raw milk and lemon juice to make a paste and applied on face for 30 minutes. Later it is washed with cold water.

A mix of yogurt, tomato juice and war oat meal is applied on the face. After 25 minutes, oat meal is scrubbed off and then the face is washed with cold water. It will help to remove the dead skin from the face and give the skin a soft feel and fresher look.

Dip the cotton ball in lemon juice and wipe the face. It will work as natural bleach. Sun exposure should be avoided after the treatment. Step out after applying sunscreen lotion.

Football injuries

09/08/09 | by Ajit | Categories: Diseases

Football is one of the most loved game in most of the countries of the globe. It is equally loved and played by young and old males and females.

Every player must have high level of fitness. He must be properly trained since 90-minutes match needs him to run, jump and sprint with great strength. His muscles must have great flexibility so that the it do not get sprained, strained or pulled during the game.

Most of the football injuries are caused when the players collide or land awkwardly after jumping the ball. Many times they overlook their minor injuries which develop into serious injury with the passage of time.

Hamstring muscles

Tear in the muscle tissues is caused when the hamstring muscles get over-stretched. Depending on the level of severity, we call it first, second or third degree.
The player must properly warm up before starting of the match. He must perform designated stretching exercises. Wearing of warm pants provide warmth in the hamstring area.
Muscle injury during match should be treated with ice compression and elevation. The ice should not be applied directly on the skin. Ice bag should be used or the ice should be wrapped in a cloth or towel and then applied to the affected area. The Doctor would examine the extent of injury and advise necessary rest or treatment.

Sprained ankle

“Twisting or turning of ankles inwards’ is another very common injury caused to the footballers. The ligaments are ruptured which causes bleeding within the tissues. It leads to swelling of the joint and shooting pain in and around ankle.

Wobble board training is designed to improve the flexibility in the ankle joint. It reduces the occurrence of ankle sprain. Ankle brace will be helpful in avoiding sprain if it is a recurring problem.

Sprained ankle should be provided with a bandage to help with compression of the injury. Ice compression and elevation with proper rest will provide immediate relief.

Ancient Egyptian Art of Body Sugaring

09/06/09 | by Ajit | Categories: Diseases

Body sugaring is a method for removing body hair that is a cheap, homemade alternative to waxing (or shaving). The theory behind body sugaring is that the hair is removed by the root, and when it grows back there will be less of it, and it will be softer and not stubbly as it is if a razor had been used.

Body sugaring is done by making a paste of sugar, water, and lemon juice that has been heated to the softball candy stage.

After you have let the paste cool enough so that it won’t burn, you spread it on your skin, cover it with cotton strips of cloth, and then rip the cloth off like one does a bandage. Most find sugaring less painful than waxing.

Due to many requests from readers for this recipe, I have looked hard for what I have finally found and give you here, what I think is the best formula:

INGREDIENTS
2 cups sugar
¼ cup lemon juice
¼ cup water
Equipment: Candy thermometer
Combine the ingredients in a heavy saucepan, and heat on low using a candy thermometer. Watch the mixture very carefully so that it doesn’t boil over. Heat the mixture to 250 F on the candy thermometer; this is the hardball candy stage.

Remove from the heat and let cool enough to pour into a jar without breaking or melting the jar. (Note that this jar will be reheated in the future. Make sure it is safe for whatever form of reheating you plan to do—in the microwave, or in a pan of water.

Rip clean cotton fabric in 1-inch strips. Make sure the cotton isn’t too coarsely woven.
This next step is very critical: Let the mixture cool enough so that it won’t burn your skin. The first time I did this I didn’t let the blend cool enough and I burned myself! Test the mixture on the palm of your hand, knowing that is much tougher than the sensitive skin under your arms.

Using a dull knife or Popsicle stick, spread the cooled sugar onto your skin. Cover with the cloth strips, let set for a few minutes, and then rip off quickly as you would a bandage.

In the future you can reheat the mixture to a warm and not hot temperature (see above), and reuse. Note that reheating will thicken the paste.
