Magnesium – Prime mover of the body

09/26/09 | by Ajit | Categories: Diseases

There is a general understanding among the people that Calcium is essential for strong bones and vitamin C helps in fast healing of wounds and infections. It is true but how far we are aware of important role played by Magnesium in our body systems.

Magnesium activates 300 different biochemical reactions in our body. Oxygen and water are very important for our body. The next is Magnesium which regulates calcium, potassium and sodium. It must be clearly understood that if low oxygen and water can affect our body then deficiency of magnesium can adversely affect our body systems.

Magnesium helps in proper functioning of nervous system, bone formation, creation of new cells, proper working of kidney, adrenals, brain and activation of B vitamins. Its deficiency may cause insomnia, muscle cramps & disorders, osteoporosis, regular feeling of weakness, fatigue and nervousness

Magnesium has affected almost everybody since its importance is largely misunderstood. Its deficiency can even cause a heart attack. Change in heart beats or racing heart beats, angina pain and exhaustion after heavy physical exercise like: football, basket ball or races could be the result of magnesium deficiency. The reason could be the insufficient relaxation of the heart muscles. Even young athletes could suffer from sudden death due to deficiency of magnesium.

Maintaining safe levels of magnesium in the body is very important. It must be clearly understood that excess calcium in the body may force out the magnesium. Consumption of pasteurized milk causes deficiency of magnesium since it has 8 parts calcium and one part magnesium.

Improve your intake of magnesium after consulting your physician. You can improve your level f magnesium by consuming the following foods: Wheat bran, wheat germ, almonds, cashews, peanuts, sesame seeds, millet, wheat, wild rice, tofu, beet greens, brown rice and dried figs etc.
